Quality Area 3
Quality Area 3 of the National Quality Standard focuses on the physical environment, which is critical to contributing to children’s wellbeing, creativity, and developing independence. A well-designed space provides a diverse range of experiences that promote every child’s learning and development while actively keeping them safe and reducing the risk of injury through intentionally organised environments. Furthermore, it supports inclusive practice by catering to different learning capacities and allowing for reasonable adjustments to be made when required. It also builds an intercultural space where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and knowledge are shared, providing rich opportunities for children to learn on and from Country. Ultimately, the physical environment empowers children to appreciate and engage with concepts of social, economic, and environmental sustainability, alongside social justice, sharing, and democracy.
